WS Laxman on Friday made a seamless transition from playing cricket to television commentary as he spoke in English as well as Hindi on the opening day of the first India-Australia Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here.

Dressed nattily in a matching grey jacket and tie, Laxman, 38, https://kombuchapedia.org/view/The_Hysteria_Of_Elections_Has_Made_Democracy_Deaf_To_Citizen_apos;s_Rights was as usual measured in his comments as he analysed the game of the players, some of whom had shared the dressing room with him as members of the Indian team.

Laxman, always a gentleman, was all smiles throughout.
His co-commentator Harsha Bhogle was impressed with his fellow Hyderabadi's performance in his new role. "He was okay. He was as good as he could be," Bhogle told MAIL TODAY.

Another commentator said of Laxman: "He was not nervous; he was quite comfortable. He commented both in English and Hindi and even the broadcasters were happy with him."

Interestingly, Laxman made his debut as a commentator in a match involving a country against which he was the most successful in his 134-Test long career.

The elegant right-handed batsman scored 27.71 per cent of his Test aggregate of 8,781 against Australia, against whom he also made his highest Test score of 281, during the historic Test in Kolkata in 2001.

Laxman retired in August last year, a decision that is often termed a 'mysterious' one, just before the home series against New Zealand last year, when everyone expected him to play the first Test of that series in his home city and then the next in Bangalore.
